GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
SENSORY PROFILE: The wine appears a garnet-flecked deep ruby-red, then offers varietally-faithful scents of sweet violets and pungent underbrush. An elegant, velvet-smooth palate displays sturdy structure and perfectly-calibrated tannins.
FOOD PAIRING: It is styled to accompany full-flavoured dishes, such as game, red meats, and aged cheeses.
VINIFICATION: Gentle pressing of the grapes, then a lengthy, submerged-cap maceration and cool-temperature fermentation. The wine matured 12-18 months in 40hl Slavonian oak botti, then a further three months in the bottle.
VINEYARD: The Morello hill (300 metres’ elevation) in the commune of Vittorito.
SOIL PROFILE: Sandy-clay, organically-rich soils.
TRAINING SYSTEM: Vertical trellised spurred cordon.
VINEYARD YIELD: 100-110 q/ha.
HARVEST PERIOD: Mid to late October.
COMMENTS: The wine is released three years after harvest.
